Today, the 48 gate weir located across the river from Sacramento, California is the only operable weir along the Sacramento River and manually opened when waters hit 27.5 feet at Sacramento's I Street Bridge with a forecast to continue rising. The waters are then diverted west down the mile long Sacramento Bypass into the Yolo Bypass, part of the Sacramento River Flood Control Project to help prevent flooding into downtown Sacramento.
